  • You will require a recent photo along with a photo ID.
  • Upload the documents with a Yatra charge of Rs.150 to complete the process. 

Offline registration

  • You can register offline at select branches of Punjab National Bank, State Bank Of India, Yes Bank, and Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
  • The Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) is needed from an authorised doctor. 
  • A photo ID with six recent passport size photos are also a must.
  • Pay the registration fees of Rs.150/- and it’s done!
  • You will get a stamped yatra permit. 

Who can take part in the Amarnath Yatra?

  • Individuals in the age of 13 to 70 can visit the place.
  • The high altitude yatra does not allow women who are pregnant for more than six weeks.
  • The Compulsory Health Certificate (CHS) is a must for the yatra.

How to Reach the Amarnath Cave?

  • You can get to the holy Amarnath from Pahalgam which is just 32 kilometers away. The second route is from Baltal which is 14 kilometers from Amarnath.
  • Pahalgam is 90 kilometers from Srinagar and the base camp for Pahalgam track is at Nunwan near Pahalgam. 
  • Baltal is 95 kilometers from Srinagar and the base camp for the track is at Baltal. (near Sonmarg)
  • Chandanwadi has the Yatra Access Control Gate for Pahalgam route. (12 kilometers from Nunwan)
  • Domail has the Yatra Access Control Gate for Baltal route. (2.5 kilometers from Baltal)
  • Srinagar and Jammu are well connected by all means of transport.

Pahalgam Route Vs Baltal Route: Which Is Better

Baltal Route

  • Baltal route is shorter than Pahalgam route and just 14 kilometers from Baltal base camp.
  • People who want to complete the yatra faster go from Baltal
  • It just takes 5-6 hours to reach the destination and you can complete the yatra in a day if you want to. 
  • It’s a pocket friendly option with no or lower accommodation charges.
  • Best for young people and someone with good fitness. 
  •  The main drawback is the steep climb that needs strength.
  • The route is Baltal-Domail-Barari-Sangam-Sacred Cave.

Pahalgam Route

  • This route is longer than Baltan and it is 36-48 from the base camp.
  • This is the old route for the Yatra and is good for families and senior citizens.
  • It takes 3-5 days to complete the trek, and it is the most beautiful trek in the country.
  • The slow track lets your body adjust to the high altitude.
  • Pony and Palky service is available for both routes.
  • The route is Pahalgam-Chandanwadi-Pissu Top-Sheshnag-Mahagunas Pass-Panchtarni-Sacred Cave.

Accommodation and Food During the Yatra

  • Staying near the sacred cave is not allowed.
  • Everyone should stay at the tented camps at Baltal, Chandanwadi and Panchtarni. 
  • You can easily book them on the website of SASB or from a local tour operator.
  • Community Kitchens (Langars) provide food to the visitors without any charge along the route. 
  • You can find tea stalls along the route and snacks are also available.
