Day 4 of the first test between India and England witnessed a lot of records, with India dominating the test match. England needs 350 runs to win on day 5 with all the wickets intact. Team India’s batting has been brilliant throughout the test match, with a century score for the first time in test matches for India. Indian batters hit five centuries for the first time in test cricket since they first played Test cricket in 1932.

Rishabh Pant Scores Centuries In Both Innings

Rishabh Pant became the first Indian Test player on English soil to score centuries in both innings of a test match. The Indian vice-captain scored 134 in the first innings and 118 in the second, making his place in the record books. The left-hander scored his runs in style with controlled aggression.

Pant’s superlative performance at Headingley has his name added to the elite list of twin centuries in Test matches. Sunil Gavaskar (thrice), Rahul Dravid (twice), Vijay Hazare, Ajinkya Rahane, and Virat Kohli. Pant also becomes the second wicketkeeper in Test history after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower to score 252 runs in a Test match. Andy Flower has 341 to his name, which he scored in Harare against South Africa in 2001.

Five Collective Centuries By Indian Batsmen

The Indian team at Leeds created a unique record of registering five collective centuries in a Test match for the first time, and it’s only the sixth occasion in the history of Test match cricket. India started playing Test cricket in 1932, and after 93 years of playing Test match cricket, India has achieved a unique record. India is the second team to do so in an overseas venue after Australia achieved this unique record in 1955 against West Indies at Kingston.

Coming back to the current test match, in the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shubham Gill and Rishabh Pant hit centuries, while in the second innings, K.L. Rahul and Rishabh Pant reached their centuries. Rishabh Pant and his fellow batters have put India in a strong position, and now it’s up to the bowlers to do the job for India; the England team is also quite balanced, with the advantage of playing at home. Let’s see a good final day of Test cricket with both teams going great guns.
