The Singapore GP 2025 kicked off with a fiery first corner. Lando Norris shot up from fifth to third, immediately putting Oscar Piastri on the back foot. Over team radio, Piastri said: “Yeah, I mean, that wasn’t very team-like, but sure. So, are we cool with Lando barging me out of the way, or what’s the go there?”
Things got trickier when Norris clipped the back of Max Verstappen, nudging Piastri in the process. It was a messy moment, but Norris was fully committed. Piastri’s frustration came through loud and clear: “That’s not fair. I’m sorry, that’s not fair. If he has to avoid another crash by crashing into his team-mate, then that’s a **** poor job of avoiding.”
McLaren’s response was calm, if firm. Stallard told Piastri, “Oscar, we are still reviewing that incident. We will look at it, but I need you to just focus on what we can do here. Control the controllables, mate.” By lap eight, the team confirmed no action would be taken: “No further action from the stewards. As a team, we can see Lando has to avoid Verstappen, so we won’t take any action during the race, so we will review it after the race.”
Norris extended his gap over Piastri while the Australian remained visibly annoyed, starting third and quickly overtaken by his team-mate. The clash highlighted the tension between maintaining team harmony and allowing competitive freedom as the drivers’ championship battle heats up.

Piastri Stays Tight-Lipped on Norris Clash
After the Singapore GP 2025, Oscar kept things measured when asked about the clash. He hadn’t seen all angles yet and didn’t want to rush his verdict. Speaking to Sky Sports F1, he said, “Obviously a difficult race, difficult first lap, but I’ve not seen the replay obviously. I just know from in-car, so I’ll go and have a look, but it’s obviously a great night for the whole team.” About team dynamics, he added, “Yes, I think we do. I don’t think obviously there was any intention of contact, but there was and again I need to look at the replay and see what exactly happened.”
