Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis in November 2024. He was honoured recently at the ongoing French Open 2025 at Roland Garros in Paris. Rafa has won the French Open title a record 14 times. It looks very challenging for any current player to reach the level of winning 14 French Open titles.
He received a grand farewell on Sunday, 25th May, with all the legends coming together at the French Open. Famously known as the ‘Big Four’, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray were together at the grand farewell of Rafa. Rafa was surprised to see the three at the Roland Garros. Nadal said after fighting for everything for years, it is great to see the changing perspective over the years.
Rafael is a clay court specialist with the French Open and Monte Carlo Masters, both played on clay surfaces. Nadal has won the French Open title for a record 14 times and the Monte Carlo Masters title for a record 11 times.

When he was asked in an interview about his iconic trophy bite after winning, he said it started in 2005 when he won the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time, but he was not sure why he did it. When he won the Monte Carlo Trophy, he bit the trophy for the first time, and after that, the photographers began asking him to do it over and over. This is how it became a tradition.
Nadal was given a grand and special farewell at the Roland Garros in Paris on 25th May. Nadal had played 115 here on Court Philippe Chatrier of the French Open. All the spectators wore a coloured T-shirt with “Merci Rafa” written on it, along with the date “25.05.2025”. Many fans took the T-shirts back home, and some sold them on the resale website, where they were sold at 500 euros. Nadal entered the venue in a suit and was stunning as always. He was greeted with a standing ovation. After an emotional speech, which was ended in French, English, and Spanish, Rafa was not able to control his tears. He thanked everyone in the speech, especially his coach and uncle, Tony Nadal, and all his family members. We hope that he enjoys his retirement as much as he enjoyed his playing
