GOAT Sri Lankan Ex-Captain Arjuna Ranatunga To Be Arrested Soon

Legendary Sri Lankan Cricketer Arjuna Ranatunga faces legal problems and arrest for corruption charges. Arjuna Ranatunga was the country’s petroleum minister from May 2017 to October 2018, and he was involved in an oil scam that led to a loss of 800 million Sri Lankan Rupees.

Dhamika Ranatunga Arrested On Monday

Arjuna Ranatunga’s brother, Dhamika Ranatunga, was arrested on Monday, 15th December, but was granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. Dhamika was granted bail with strict terms, including not leaving the country and avoiding influencing the witnesses in the case.

He is the hero and the winning captain of the 1996 World Cup. Arjuna Ranatunga is currently not in Sri Lanka, and he will face arrest as soon as he comes back home. Arjuna changed the procedure for oil purchases, leading to a huge loss for the country.

Arjuna Ranatunga is a hero in Sri Lanka, with a great record as a player and captain. Arjuna has played 93 Test Matches in which he has scored 5105 runs at an average of 35.69. He played 269 One Day Internationals to score 7456 runs at an average of 35.84. Ranatunga made his international debut in 1982 and played his last test match in 2000. 

In a career of 18 years, he has many records to his name. Arjuna always backed the players in the team. As a result, people recognised him for his leadership qualities. He is now in the eye of a storm with corruption charges. Arjuna has been in active politics since 2001 and has been in key ministries during his political career. Arjuna Ranatunga’s case has raised debate in Sri Lanka’s political and sports circles, as he had a good image before this case.

The new government, which came into power in late 2024, has zero tolerance against corruption. President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is working hard on his clean-up policies. The Ranatunga brothers have a long legal battle ahead, and authorities are waiting for Arjuna’s return.
