Will the Netflix-Warner Bros Deal Harm the Indian Film Industry?
Netflix is main streaming platform and the deal could harm the theatre business. Theatres and Multiplex chains in the country earn from Warner Bros productions like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, DC Universe, and more. The deal will deprive multiplexes of quality Hollywood content and it will hit supply chain that gives work to millions of people in India.
And Netflix will work on high-quality streaming which can hurt small and local platforms. The Indian film industry may not be hit hard by the deal because Hollywood movies account for only 10% of total income. The Indian Box Office has seen 24% increase in income this year compared to 2024. The data provided by Omax Media is showing positive signs. The deal may affect the Hollywood film industry, but in India, it will take years to make an impact.
