‘Thamma’ Movie Review: Will Maddock Hit The Jackpot?

Director Aditya Sarpotdar’s ‘Thamma’ released all over today. The movie is produced by Dinesh Vijan/ Amar Kaushik and has an impressive starcast of Rashmika Mandana, Ayushmann Khurana, Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and many more. The horror comedy with romantic angle has many surprise cameos of big stars.

The Story

The Latest Edition of Maddock films to the horror universe after Stree, Bhediya and Munjiya is not as impressive as them. Ayushmann Khurana plays a TV reporter, Alok Goyal, and is out tracking with his group of friends. A bear attacks Alok during the trek, but Tadaka, played by Rashmika Mandanna, saves him. The story progresses as the vampire world traps Alok, and he falls in love with the mysterious Tadaka.

Thamma Movie Review

Thamma starts with a slow premise, but the movie catches up after the interval. Although the movie lacks the ‘Midas touch’ of the Maddock horror universe, with no horror, a bit of comedy, and no romance, it becomes predictable towards the end, with no twists and turns you expect from a Maddock movie.

Acting, Direction and Music

Ayushmann Khurana has played his role well, while Rashmika is just OK in the movie, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is over the top and irritating sometimes. In my opinion, Paresh Rawal is the only one who lives their character well. The direction by Aditya Sarpotdar is average as the movie seems to lose track many times. He tries to focus more on visuals, sets and cinematography than direction and fails.

My Opinion

Thamma has some good performances and a few surprise cameos. They try really hard to save the movie with three item numbers, to no avail. The movie fails to live up to the expectations of the Maddock horror universe and opened to a lukewarm response at the box office on Diwali. Overall, it’s a one-time watch for Ayushmann Khurana and Rashmika Mandana fans and even for people who like Maddock horror movies.
