Will the Netflix-Warner Bros Deal Harm the Indian Film Industry?

Netflix is a leading streaming platform, and the deal could harm the theatre ecosystem. Theatres and Multiplex chains in India get a lot of business from Warner Bros productions like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, DC Universe, and more. The deal will deprive multiplexes of quality Hollywood content. As a result, it will weaken the film supply chain that provides work to millions of people in India.

At the same time, Netflix will focus on high-quality streaming content, potentially harming smaller, regional streaming platforms. The Indian film industry may not be hit hard by the deal, as Hollywood movies account for only 10% of total revenue. The Indian Box Office has seen 24% growth this year compared to 2024. The data provided by Omax Media is showing positive signs. The deal may affect the Hollywood film industry, but in India, it will take years to make an impact.
