I’ve seen that in 2025 every fashion trend is a combination of retro and new elements. Everything vintage is in fashion, exceptionally the way costumes are accessorized. With that said, are foulards back? But wait. What is a foulard? Great question, I definitely called it “the scarf thing” until yesterday. A foulard is a lightweight, silky fabric. It’s got a soft and smooth texture. The word ‘foulard’ comes from French, by the way. It’s usually made of silk, but sometimes of a blend of silk and cotton. Foulards can be worn as tops, belts, bandanas, tied to your bags, worn around your neck or wrist, looped into your top, or braided into your hair.
It mostly has subtle patterns like small florals or dots. This fabric has everything you need. It’s chic and elegant yet also a street-style staple. It instantly reminds me of summer. Foulards are bright, patterned, and flowy.
The History Of Foulards
It is believed that East Asia gifted us this beauty (which makes sense because of silk). The trend quickly spread to Europe. They were well liked as neckwear for both men and women in the 18th and 19th century. The fashion statement of the time was foulards tied under the chin and coupled with large sunglasses. You could spot them ocassionally after that but not as much. Yes, I’m talking about Harry Styles and Anne Hathaway.
How To Style A Foulard?

You can turn a foulard into a necktie and wear it with a button-down, some cute pants and a pair of hoops. Another plan is to wrap your ponytail with it or braid it into your hair with a sundress. You can even use these as headbands or tie them onto your bags. Oh, and it’s a good fashion choice for men, too. You could tuck a foulard under your jacket around your neck. It would be pretty as a bracelet or a headband. You can even style a foulard tie.
All I needed was a piece of silk to feel like I’ve got my life together. Foulards are back and I’m already arranging my next outfit around one.
